Happy Crafting,

You can create your own snowflake background for a winter or Christmas card by using a resist technique.

The resist snowflakes on the blue background behind the digital image  are created with Gelato Markers, Acrylic Snowflake Stamps, Clear Embossing Ink  and Clear Embossing Powder.

Arrange several different snowflake acrylic stamps on your acrylic block so you can stamp them all at once.  Change the direction of your stamp each time and stamp a few off the sides and edges.  You need to ink up your stamp with a clear embossing ink.  Stamp onto white cardstock and then emboss with clear embossing powder.  I used Stampendous Detail Clear Transparent and Ranger’s Inkessentials Clear Emboss It Ink.  Heat set/emboss with your heat gun.  This is what it will look like after it is embossed.

Next, take Gelato markers, use three different colors and color at random over the entire paper going over the embossed snowflakes.  I used Faber Castel Gelatos in Cotton Candy, Metallic Mint and Metallic Blueberry colors.
Once colored it doesn’t look very good!
Use your finger and rub the colors to smooth it out and it will end up looking like this.  The pretty metallic colors make the background shine and the embossed snowflakes resist the color and show up white.

Add your colored digi image (I colored mine with Copics and will post the coloring list under my signature) and assemble your card.  I matted my snowflake background to some pretty green cardstock to make it really stand out against the printed papers.

Creating a background with this resist technique is really fun and easy.  You could use it with flowers, butterflies, hearts etc.  I used a digital image from The Stamping Shack for my holiday card.

Happy Crafting,

A quick post to share this card…

I’ve created this card for my design team post over on The Stamping Shack blog for today!  I used a Fenella & Friends “Snow Pal” digital stamp from The Stamping Shack AND I share how I created the beautiful snowflake resist background.  CLICK HERE to go over and read that post and while there, please click to follow The Stamping Shack and leave a comment too!  Oh and there’s only a few days left to participate in the current Anything Goes Challenge on The Stamping Shack, a new challenge starts on December 1st.

I’m also sharing this with Wow! Wednesday over on the blog by my LSS, Cat’s Creations Scrapbooks.  On Wednesday we link up to her blog post and invite others to come see what we’ve been working on in the crafty world.  Those who link up, leave comments on her blog and visit others and comment have a chance to win some blog candy!

Happy Crafting,

Well, Thanksgiving is over and it’s time our thoughts turn to Christmas.  Many have already decorated their tree and hung lights outside for this most festive time of the year.  I was excited to see that our sponsor, My Grafico, provided the Seems A Little Sketchy Design Team with their fabulous Traditional Christmas Stamps for the challenge.  I decided to use the Santa in his sleigh and the reindeer image to create this snow flight card.  I re-sized the deer in Word on my computer so that they would appear to be flying away and off the card.

Copic Coloring List:

  • Santa’s Face: E50, E51, E57, R20
  • Beard and Fur Trim B60  Stickles on the fur trim and Opal Liquid Pearls on the beard
  • Santa’s Suit R35, R37, R39
  • Sleigh YR 14, YR23, C1, C3, C4
  • Reindeer E31, E33
  • Gifts YG17, YG63
  • Bows on Gifts R35, R39
  • Circle Sentiment C3, R37

Time is winding down if you plan on making your Christmas cards this year!  This sketch is a fun one and worked wonderfully for a Christmas card.
