ABC Christmas Challenge ~ H is for Hardware!
Excitement abounds around here because it’s Friday! And I figure it’s a perfectly lovely day to post a Christmas card that I’ve made for the current ABC Christmas Challenge. Each challenge focuses on a letter of the alphabet (in order of course) and right now we are on the letter H. And the design team selected “Hardware” for the challenge. That means use things like brads, clips, anything that’s metal or considered hardware on the project.
I decided to do a vintage Christmas card because I really love these papers and the hardware I selected. The colors are not traditional Christmas colors but I think they really work for this card.
I used Graphic 45’s Christmas Emporium 8×8 paper collection–“Under the Mistletoe” for the background and “Believe!” for the postcard type cutouts EXCEPT for the larger Santa one. That’s a stamped image that a friend gave to me a few years ago at a crop when we were creating Christmas cards. I thought it was perfect for this card and colored the Santa, greenery and the background with my Copic pens (see photo below for the colors I used). I also added some sparkle with Spica pens though you can’t really see that in the photo.
The “hardware” on this card are two vintage looking brads on the corners of the large Santa image plus a tiny metal clip on the “A Merry Christmas” postcard. The boughs are plastic I think and have been painted silver and coated with glitter (not by me). I added a bow & ribbon at the top fold of the card tied from “Hug Snug” seam binding in the Taffee Beige color.
The ABC Christmas challenge is having a design team call with this challenge and I’ve decided to mark my name for consideration for their team. I love Christmas and really enjoy creating Christmas stuff any time of the year! Wish me luck!
As soon as I finish up with this post, I plan on heading upstairs to my crafty room for a bit to clean up some from the week’s
work fun and start on a Scrapbook page layout that I’m creating for We R Memory Keeper’s as a Guest Designer for their Facebook page.
Enjoy the weekend and hopefully there will be lots of nice sunshiny weather where you live!
This week the challenge for Stamptacular Sunday is to create something with three or more layers plus as always, you need to stamp an image. I used 5 layers if you count the card background which is the same paper as one of the other layers. I also made this card as a “catch up” for the ABC Christmas challenge. I’ve missed a couple of letters of the alphabet! This one is F for Furry. The furry part is the cat image.
I was not very diligent in keeping up with the names of supplies and products used for this creation that I made this week as originally it was not going to be linked up to a challenge until I realized that I had more then three layers and that it would be a perfect entry for the “Loaded with Layers” for Stamptacular Sunday. The printed papers are from a 6×6 Christmas paper pack. The holly leaves, berries and buttons are from my stash. Red and white twine was used for the bow and to tie through the buttons. I colored the cat with my Copics and used two different shades of yellow and then a grey shade for the eyeglasses. One thing I do know, this stamp is new from Stampendous Stamps! Love, love, love it!!
It’s Thursday! Whoo Hoo! I’m excited because it means we are closer to the weekend. I’m having a small garage sale on Saturday for a few hours and then hope to do some scrapbook layout creating or finish up a project on Sunday afternoon and then next week start packing for a 4 day National Scrapbook Day Retreat I’m attending with lots of classes, make & takes, fun and friends!
It’s another blog post! Yes, the Wednesday evening edition.
|Top Three Card April 201|
I’ve been planning this card for the Whimsie Doodles April Challenge for some time now. Just never got around to finishing it, photographing it AND posting it. Tonight’s the deadline. Internet is working good right now, so I think I need to get this done–right?
For this challenge, I decided to choose Option C for my “adventure” which required you to create a card using an office supply AND lined paper on your project.
I used Whimsie Doodles digi image “Cake Tower.” I’ve had this for a couple of years I guess and have used it for several personal birthday cards. I checked in the Whimsie Doodles store and no longer see it, so I’m guessing it is retired. I’m pretty sure though that it is aWhimsie Doodles image as I keep my digis in files by designer or shop names. If I’m incorrect, someone PLEASE correct me! The lined paper is from a 6×6 paper pad and I used a punch to make the binder tear out edge on the left side. The yellow printed paper for the background of the card is from my scraps stash. I matted the digi image onto solid teal colored cardstock and colored the image with the Copic pen colors shown in the photo below. On the pink dots of the cake, the yellow frosting and the candle flame, I lightly brushed Stickles for added birthday sparkle! The ribbon and bow is Hug Snug seam binding ribbon. My office supply item, of course, is the big paper clip. I was lucky. I had a pink one!
And that’s it for this Wednesday. I may have just enough time to finish that Christmas card that’s on my Workdesk before turning in for the night!
Hello! Happy Wednesday! Middle of the week. Hump Day!! Yay!!! While I don’t like the weeks just whizzing right on by me, I do love that Wednesday means we’re half way to the weekend! Though my weekdays aren’t THAT bad. I do work in our construction business home office but when I’m done with the necessary paperwork stuff, I can forward the phones and sneak up to my crafty space. Which is what I did yesterday.
This photo was taken last night as I was rounding up for the day. I did finish drinking the Diet Dr. Pepper and tossed the bottle in the trash but otherwise, my workdesk looks exactly the same this morning.
I’ve started on a new project and I did clean up before I laid everything out. So that’s why my workdesk looks more or less neat. I’m working on a 5.5 inch by 5.5 inch Christmas card for the current ABC Christmas Challenge. The challenge is to use hardware, so I have a bit of that lying in the center–some brads, clips, metal buttons and such. Otherwise there’s not much else that’s new. The Copics are there as I did use some to color and antique one of the Santa images. Nothing is stuck down just yet and I’m hoping that no one jumps up there and scrambles it all up (that would be one of the cats–they are not kittens anymore but still…).
A close up of the project. Not sure if I’m “done” with it or not. Things may be added, moved around and taken away. I hope to get this finished later this evening and hopefully blog it on Friday.
I’ve returned about 30 minutes ago from the dentist. Such a fun thing to do. My bridge fell out yesterday at lunch and I had to go in today to get it cemented back in. A girl has to eat you know. Then I ran a few errands while I was in town, so this post is a bit later than I’d hoped for.
Oh wait! I did just notice something new on my workdesk! On the back left side is a white wood cube box that normally would hang on the wall but I’ve put it on my desk to have a “double decker” place to store things I use a lot. Not much on there just yet. I’m still moving stuff in. Ha, ha.
Wow! It is a warm April day here in Texas!! I think we are pushing 90 degrees but the wind is blowing so it’s not too terribly hot with the windows open. But soon it will be hot enough to turn the air conditioning on. I will miss the open windows.
Hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday afternoon. Remember, to see what’s going on at other crafter’s desks from around the world, click here to visit Julia’s Stamping Ground blog and then scroll down for the linky list of other participants.
And before I close, I want to share that on this lovely Wednesday morning I clicked over to the Hambo Hoedown blog to see what the new challenge would be and was totally thrilled to see that my card for their last challenge was chosen as the best and that I was this week’s Best of Show for the Hambo Hoedown! Here’s a link to my “winning” card.
Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge # 22
Happy Tuesday! It’s a busy day here for me. Many projects to finish, new ones to start and this evening I’m attending my first Stamping Up party, class, workshop–whatever they are called. There will be several of my scrapping friends there so it should be a fun couple of hours!
For the April Doodle Pantry challenge, I decided to use the super adorable Doodle Pantry digi – Beary Cute because he really is beary cute!! This is a pre-colored version of the digi as it went so well with the papers I picked out. I do love coloring with my Copic pens but sometimes the pre-colored image is just right.
I’m so loving the printed papers from My Minds Eye Six by Six “Happier” Designer Paper Pad. Every piece of paper on this card came from that pack EXCEPT for that bit of green check border behind the orange. That’s the reverse of a piece of Christmas paper that was in my scraps basket. I added the lovely green lace and then some Prima flowers. I put a touch of gold Stickles to the centers of the flowers and along the bottom of the grass where Beary Cute sits.
So…if today is your birthday, I wish you a Happy Bear-day!
